Abstract

It is the condition when the fluid consisting of proteins starts to get accumulated into the abdomen known as ascites. They start to experience symptoms like difficulty in breathing, weight gain, pain in the abdomen and loss of appetite. It can be easily diagnosed through tests like CT Scan, CBC, MRI, Ultrasound and Angiography. One of the main causes leading to ascites are Hepatitis Band C along with heart failure or pancreatitis. Cirrhotic Ascites is also one of the things that can be seen in later stages of the disease. However, it is possible to treat the disease in earlier stages of the disease through natural ways. In this article we are going to discuss some home remedies that will help in reducing the fluid without causing any side-effects.

Ascites

Introduction

People suffering from mild levels of ascites can easily apply some of these natural steps which will make a huge difference. Here are some of the natural ways to treat the disease effectively and this includes:-

1. Bitter Gourd

One of the main complications seen in the ascites are losing appetite due to the increased volume. The abdomen gets accumulated with fluid  which leads to a satiet and this is what makes them full. Patients suffering from ascites are recommended to have bitter gourd as this would work as a medicinal plant. Bitter gourd is beneficial for treating obesity, diabetes and dyslipidemia. As the name says it has been given name due to its bitter taste and before eating it people generally soak it in salt water to reduce the bitterness. However, it is important to reduce the intake of sodium in their diet and here are some easy ways to include them in the daily diet.

Slice the unripe bitter gourd lengthwise and before that take out the seeds as well as soak them in salt water that should be low in sodium. After 30 minutes wash the slices of bitter gourd with fresh water to remove all the excessive amount of sodium in it, Another method is to prepare juice out of bitter gourd with a regular juicer and it is important to not to add sugar or salt into it. The patient can directly drink it or can mix with green apple juice to reduce the bitter taste.

2. Beans

Rerouted blood consists of high amounts of toxins as well as amino acids and the liver works as a bypass medium for the body. When it gets damaged, the liver stops working to bypass the rerouted blood  and in turn the toxins as well as amino acid start to reach the brain resulting in memory loss for a short period of time. However, the studies have shown that it is beneficial to take proteins from vegetables and beans are considered the best option.

They are a rich source of protein, fiber and are good in calories as well. Thus, if provided with a good amount of beans in the diet then they will be provided with a significant amount of protein. Beans are also very good for preventing the body from any kind of cardiovascular disease, losing weight and also very helpful in lowering cholesterol levels. You can simply make it by simply adding  3 cups of water in the pot or pan and adding one cup of dried beans into it. Boil it for almost 50 to 60 minutes and drain the extra amount of water from it, you can also add some spice or herbs into it.

3. Horse Gram

It is also known as Macrotyloma uniflorum which is a type of tropical bean with excellent antioxidant as well as antihyperglycemic properties. Recent studies have also shown that horse gram is packed with diuretic property. Unlike the other diuretic medicine used in ascites it is also packed with high sodium content, horse gram is the natural way to eliminate the toxic fluid from the body. Some of the easy ways to prepare horse gram soup is that you need to boil half a cup of horse gram into four cups of water in a cooker for almost 15 minutes. On a hot pan add chopped tomato as well as garlic and black pepper, cook it for 5 to 6 minutes. After that grind this mixture with boiled horse gram and mix it in the grinder along with that add coriander leaves. This is one of the best options for patients suffering from ascites and gives them all the needed energy.

4. Radish

One of the main functions of the liver is detoxification meaning removing harmful toxins from the body. In cases with patients having ascites due to cirrhosis have damaged liver and they are not working properly. Therefore, they are not able to detoxify the body and these toxins are one of the main causes for ascites. Radish is considered as the cruciferous vegetable that helps the liver in the detoxification process. One of the other benefits of radish is that it helps in stimulating hunger. You can easily include it in the diet by adding it as a salad or adding juice of radish leaves as they contain antihypertensive properties.

5. Fenugreek Seeds

These seeds are considered magical as they contain antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, antidiabetic and antilipidemic properties. Thus it is considered one of the best options for patients with heart, cancer or diabetic disease. Taking fenugreek seed in ascites can help in reducing swelling from the abdomen caused due to the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. These seeds are available in the dried form and people suffering from ascites can fill the jar with 1 litre of water and to that add a cup of fenugreek seed. Let it soak overnight and strain the water in the morning, drink this water daily with an empty stomach.

6. Garlic

It is one of the best home remedies for ascites and garlic is packed with many health benefits. It is helpful in reducing cholesterol as well as blood pressure, also lowers the risk of developing heart disease, and provides the bones with strength.  Due to its antioxidant property it helps in reducing the damage from free radicals as well. Along with that it has anti-toxin properties which safes the organs from serious damage due to the toxic substance. Garlic is easily available and one can easily add it in the diet.

7. Onion

In order to get rid of ascites, it is important to remove accumulated toxic fluid from the abdomen. One of the best ways to get rid of the fluid is through urination and the more you urinate the more you are able to get rid of the fluid. The frequency of urine can be increased through certain medicines but one of the natural ways is onion which acts as a diuretic and helps in increasing the frequency of urine. Besides that onion is packed with antiseptic as well as antibiotic properties along with that it is rich in fibers which helps in curing insomnia, fever, ear as well as eye problem. If the patient is suffering from ascites then adding onion will help but always remember to take out the outer layer.

Conclusion

Ascites is not a disease but a symptom of an underlying cause as  mentioned above. Ascites can lead to serious problems but at the earlier stage it can be treated through home remedies. Above mentioned home remedies are the best option for including in the diet without causing any side-effect
