7 Methods to Unblock Blocked Fallopian Tubes

Posted on August 30, 2021August 30, 2021 By Malka Breidenstein No Comments on 7 Methods to Unblock Blocked Fallopian Tubes

If one of your tubes is open and healthy, you might get pregnant without any help. Your doctor may simply prescribe some fertility drugs to boost your chances of ovulating on the open side.

However, this cannot work in case both tubes are blocked. Treatment options for unblocking obstructed fallopian tubes include:

  1. Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is considered to be one of the best treatments for blocked fallopian tubes. In several cases, laparoscopic surgery can successfully remove scar tissue and unblock blocked tubes. The chances of a successful surgery depend on the age of the patient, the severity of the blockage, and the cause of the block. If the tube is healthy otherwise, this surgery boosts your chances of getting pregnant by at least 20%–40%. However, this surgery can increase your risk of an ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, regular monitoring is vital during pregnancy after laparoscopic pelvic surgery.

  • In-Vitro Fertilization

Before In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) was introduced, if laparoscopic surgery was not an option or failed to work, it was not possible for women with blocked tubes to get pregnant. In such cases, IVF helped them to conceive.

IVF involves using fertility drugs to help stimulate the ovaries. An ultrasound-guided needle is then inserted through the vaginal wall and eggs are retrieved from the ovaries directly. These eggs are then put together with the sperm from a male partner or donor in a lab. Once the eggs fertilize and healthy embryos are formed, one or two of them are implanted into the uterus.

Since the fallopian tubes are completely avoided in this procedure, blocked fallopian tubes don’t hinder pregnancy. Therefore, it is considered to be the most effective tube blockage treatment.

  • Tubal Ligation Reversal

Tubal Ligation Reversal surgery is a kind of permanent birth control. In layman terms, it is known as “getting your tubes tied.” Tubal ligation surgery is of different types: the surgeon either cuts the tubes, bands them, clamps them, or places specialized coils in them. This surgery aims to block the fallopian tubes intentionally to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus.

Although it is considered to be a permanent form of birth control, it can sometimes be reversed for women who regret having the surgery in the future. Surgically repairing tubal ligation is usually a lot more successful than surgery for blockage due to certain diseases. For women below the age of 40 years, the success rate of conception after microsurgical tubal reversal is over 90%.

Besides the above-mentioned surgical methods forfallopian tube blockage treatment, there are few natural treatments that you can use to boost the efficacy of other treatments. These include:

  • Yoga

Yoga is considered quite helpful, not only for conceiving but also for treating blocked fallopian tubes. Yoga helps reduce stress which, in turn, boosts fertility. Although there is no scientific proof about its efficacy, many women have reported success in getting pregnant after ardently practicing yoga.

  • Following a Healthy Diet

Diet is extremely important when it comes to fertility. Although it may not be scientifically proven, it is still important to consume a healthy diet comprising all kinds of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. It is also necessary to stay hydrated so that your body contains enough nutrients when you are trying to conceive.

Once you are ready with your plan to try to conceive, you should start taking prenatal vitamins such as folic acid. A healthy diet helps reduce inflammation in the body including the tubes. Thus, it can help the body to work more effectively.

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C is extremely effective in helping reduce inflammation in the body. It is a great antioxidant that boosts the immune system, helps in healing all kinds of scarring, and positively affects the fallopian tubes. Vitamin C works best when received from your diet. However, you can also take vitamin C in the form of supplements. Keep in mind that vitamin C cannot be stored by the body, so it has to be taken regularly.

  • Turmeric

Turmeric is also a natural anti-inflammatory agent. It comprises an active ingredient called curcumin that helps reduce inflammation. Although there is no scientific proof that turmeric helps unblock blocked fallopian tubes, it offers several health benefits. Hence, it should be consumed daily. Curcumin can be taken through your food, in supplement form, or through a turmeric drink.
