Using Condiments to prepare your meals is a great way to enhance the taste of the food and add flavor. However, there are many condiments that are unhealthy as they contain artificial additives, preservatives and high amount of sodium, salt, and sugar. Healthy condiments come with low added sugar, salt, sodium and comes with nutritious ingredients like proteins, vitamins, and fiber.

Here are some of the list of healthy condiments that are beneficial for your health.

  1. Mustard

Mustard seeds are widely used all over the world as they are a powerhouse of minerals. It has a flavorful and slightly spicy taste, well-suited with foods like salads, sausages, sandwiches, and meats. They are also loaded with good amounts of antioxidants and inflammatory compounds. There are some brands that are cheap and contain food coloring, preservatives that are not good for health. So check out the ingredients label and choose some good brands that are free from preservatives or processed with less amount of additives to gain more natural benefits. Mustard seeds and sauces are pretty healthy and typically available in two types.

Yellow Mustard: They are available in different forms including ‘American mustard’ and ‘English mustard’. It contains more amount of vinegar and is weaker in flavor.

Whole grain: They are basically whole mustard seeds and is especially common in France. They are stronger in flavor in comparison with the Yellow mustard.

  • Tamari Sauce

Tamari sauce comes from Japan and it is actually a kind of soy sauce. If someone likes soy sauce then tamari sauce is definitely a good option for them. Soy sauce is prepared with a combination of wheat and fermented soybeans while tamari sauce just contains soybeans. This makes the tamari sauce less salty, smoother in texture, adherent and flavorful. They work well for marinating, dipping, and making the soups and sauces thicker. It has strong antioxidant and anticancer properties. It also contains a good amount of protein that is essential for weight control, tissue repair and hormone production.

  • Hot Sauce

Hot sauce is made from red chili peppers that gives them a spicy flavor. There are different varieties of hot sauce available that mainly contains chili or peppers, vinegar, and salt. Adding spice to the food can help you to restrain your appetite and improves your metabolism. Hot sauce is a great way to add a great kick of flavor without many calories. They have anti-inflammatory properties and helps you to keep your weight in control. Hot sauce is added in many dishes like stir-fries, scrambled eggs, barbecue, fried foods, etc.

  • Vinegar

Vinegar is used in salads, sandwiches, side dishes, marinate foods, soups, sauces, barbecue foods, etc. The condiment is calorie-free and has no sodium content. Importantly, apple cider vinegar has the ability to reduce blood sugar in people and also helps people who are at risk of type 2 diabetes. Helps you in reducing the belly fats and improves heart health by lowering the cholesterol.

  • Honey

Raw honey has many health benefits and can be used as a healthy condiment. Unlike many of the honey products available in the market, raw honey is unpasteurized and are in pure form. Raw honey is rich in antioxidants and helps to prevent cellular damage caused by free radicals in your body. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial property making it a great condiment and a healthy choice for the body. They are used as a sweetener in tea, yogurt, fruits, salads, milkshakes, etc.
