6 Reasons You Have Dry Skin

Posted on March 20, 2019March 20, 2019 By 247HealthBlog No Comments on 6 Reasons You Have Dry Skin

Dry skin is among the most common skin concerns that affect countless people of different age groups. Not only does it make your skin look dehydrated and unhealthy but also leads to dry patches and causes itchiness.

There are a host of skincare products especially made for dry skin type. However, if you are looking for a permanent solution to this unsightly issue, then you should consider tackling the underlying causes of dry skin.

Listed below are some of the common 6 reasons you have dry skin

1. Using Hot Water

Using hot water to clean the skin is cited as one of the primary reasons for dry skin. According to the experts in the skincare community, hot water can damage skin’s surface, cause dryness and break skin’s protective barrier making it susceptible to infections.

If you want to make your dry skin problem go away then you should stop using hot water for skin cleaning purposes. Instead, use lukewarm water to ensure that your skin stays healthy and soft.

2. Over-Exfoliation

Exfoliation is a great beauty method to eradicate dead skin cells and toxins from the skin. By regularly exfoliating your skin, you will be able to prevent an accumulation of dead skin cells that further cause a host of skin problems like blackheads and acne breakouts. However, overdoing this beauty treatment can lead to adverse effects.

Over exfoliation can rob your skin of its natural oil and cause dull complexion and dry skin. It is considered to be responsible for ruining the skin’s suppleness and natural glow. To avoid dry skin and the associated problems, make sure to exfoliate your skin only once a week.

3. Dehydration

Drinking eight glasses of water every day is important for your health and also for your skin. Not drinking enough water can result in dehydration and in turn lead to a variety of skin problems such as dry skin and unsightly breakouts.

Also, dehydration can create dry patches on the skin and make the skin easily irritable. To ward off the adverse effects of dehydration, you should make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the course of the day and also include hydration-boosting skincare products like skin toners into your skin care routine.

4. Sun Damage

The UV rays emitted by the sun can cause severe damage to the health of your skin. From stripping your skin off of its natural oil to speeding up the ageing process and causing premature signs of ageing like wrinkles and fine lines, there are countless ways in which exposure to the UV rays can damage your skin. That is why it is incredibly important to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays.

Make sure that you slather an adequate amount of sunscreen on your skin prior to stepping out in the sun. Aside from that, try to use home remedies and skincare products especially formulated for sun-damaged skin to reverse the damage caused by the sun.

5. Improper Moisturization

Proper moisturization is essential for maintaining the softness and suppleness of the skin. On the other hand, improper moisturization can result in to a wide range of troubling skin problems ranging from dry skin to rough skin.

In the long term, improper moisturization can cause premature signs of ageing. Hence, the need to properly moisturize your skin. Pick a moisturizer that is best suited for your skin type. If your skin is susceptible to dryness, then it is highly recommended to go with a thick-textured moisturizer especially made for dry skin type. Also, it is equally important to thoroughly apply moisturizer to your entire skin as not doing so can make your skin dry and itchy.

6. Health or Skin Condition

A few health-related problems or skin conditions can also be responsible for dry skin. Reports have found that individuals who suffer from chronic conditions like diabetes or thyroid disease are highly prone to this skin problem.

Apart from these health problems, even certain skin conditions like psoriasis or atopic dermatitis, popularly known as Eczema, can be the reason why you have dry skin. These skin conditions make your skin appear dry and scaly. However, with the help of skincare products especially formulated for Eczema or psoriasis-prone skin, you can get relief from dry skin and other associated symptoms.
