Posted on October 31, 2018 By Anukreeti No Comments on Does Your Lifestyle Affect the Health of Your Teeth & Gums?

Yes, our lifestyle does affect the health of our teeth and gums. Your habits have a big say in the way your oral health develops. In fact, poor lifestyle or bad oral care choices can negatively impact your teeth and gums. That’s why some people have good oral health while others face a whole host of dental problems. From your foods to your habit, from your oral care to your dental visit, everything will have an affect on the health of your teeth and gums. So, it’s better to be on the right side of lifestyle choices and maintain a superior oral health.

Let’s look at how our lifestyle can affect the health of our teeth and gums in different ways –

1. Poor oral hygiene can cause dental health issues

Not taking oral care seriously can have big ramifications on your dental health. In fact, poor oral health might weaken your tooth structure in future by leading to cavities, tooth decay and other similar problems. If your lifestyle is such that oral care is neglected, this could spell trouble for your dental health. Poor oral hygiene can cause stains, discoloration, gingivitis, premature tooth loss and lots of other problems.

2. Bad food choices can harm your teeth and gums greatly

The health of your teeth and gums depends a lot on what you eat and what you don’t. If you’re fond of sugary items, this could be bad for your teeth. If you drink too much tea, coffee, this can also damage your teeth structure over time. Sugar in any form is bad for your teeth, whether it comes with fruit juices or chocolates. You can start eating a well-balanced diet and maintain a better dental health.

3. Smoking and tobacco can ruin your teeth and gums

If you smoke or use tobacco in any form, you’re then at a serious risk of oral health problems. This habit not only causes staining and discoloration of your teeth but could also harm your gums a lot. In fact, gum problems like gingivitis and periodontitis could be the result of your smoking and tobacco use. More so, smoking can cause dry mouth which can lead to oral issues over time.

4. Lack of oral etiquettes can harm your teeth and gums

Some people drink water immediately after tea of coffee. Some even brush their teeth right after eating foods high in acid content. Both these habits can weaken the enamel and lead to tooth decay. Worse still, some don’t take oral hygiene seriously and skip brushing, flossing, tongue cleaning more often than it should. All this can be bad for your teeth and gums.

5. Not going for regular dental check-ups

Most of us take oral health not as seriously as we should. Not many among us go to the dentist for regular check-ups. We don’t benefit from dental treatment in Delhi and this puts our teeth and gums at risk. With timely visit to the dentist, we can easily avoid serious oral care problems and maintain a better dental health.
